“Dr. Oz Show” Television Program Featured Optomap Retinal Exam from Optos

The “Dr. Oz Show” syndicated television program featuring Dr. Mehmet Oz, recently included Optos’ Optomap® Retinal Exam. This breakthrough technology images the back of the eye and helps doctors assess overall eye health as well as detecting signs of other diseases such as cancer, diabetes and hypertension. The segment aired in most markets this week.

The Optomap technology featured on this program is a patient friendly, quick and comfortable procedure which captures and analyzes an image of virtually the entire retina in a quarter of a second. It takes only minutes to perform and allows the patient to view his/her Optomap image with their doctor during the exam while also providing a permanent record for annual comparisons, tracking and diagnosing potential issues.

Preventative eye care has never been so important or more critical. Regular eye exams play a vital role in preventing loss of sight and detecting systemic disease. A comprehensive eye exam, including an Optomap Retinal Exam, can aid in the early-diagnosis of potential problems for people of all ages, including young children. Conventional retinal examination methods typically capture less than 12 percent of the retina compared to the Optomap, which captures more than 80 percent of the retina at one time. No other medical diagnostic equipment - anywhere in the world - for examining the retina can do this.

“Eyes can be the ‘window’ to a patient’s overall health and can reveal conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, stroke, rheumatoid arthritis and ocular cancer,” said Thomas G. Daniells, VP Marketing, Optos Inc. “This national exposure will help to increase consumer awareness of the need for annual eye exams that include the Optomap Retinal Exam.”

The Optomap Retinal Exam is available worldwide and at more than 3,200 eyecare facilities in the U.S. Stunning high-quality video and stills of medical diagnosis made via evidence from this test are available at: http://www.optos.com/en/Professionals/Image-library/Color-fundus-images/
