New York is synonymous with the holidays. No city sparkles and dazzles residents and visitors alike with more lights than New York City during the holiday season. And, this year there is a brilliant addition to the seasonal display. The recently launched Jewel-Light(TM) Luminaire is lighting up The Pond at Bryant Park and, at the same time, doing its part towards "greening" the Big Apple.
"The Jewel-Lights add a beautiful, wintry sparkle to the park. This season, skaters at The Pond are treated to a brighter and environmentally friendlier experience," commented Igancio Ciocchini, Director of Design, Bryant Park Corporation.
Created by internationally renowned lighting designer Leni Schwendinger, the Jewel-Light Luminaire transforms outdoor lighting. Using energy saving LED (light emitting diode) technology, from Lighting Science Group Corporation, the Jewel-Light Luminaire provides an artistic signature to enhance architecture and infrastructure while reducing costs and offering a brilliant alternative to traditionally utilitarian lighting.
"I wanted to develop a beautiful, practical, forward-thinking and sustainable solution for new and retrofit markets that translates into significant cost savings and beautification for cities," said Schwendinger. "My design firm was able to do this with critical support from Lighting Science Group who developed and manufactured the luminaire."
The Jewel-Light Luminaire, the first commercially available product designed by Leni Schwendinger, is currently lighting New York City's Bryant Park. "New Yorkers and visitors can experience the transformative power of the Jewel-Light in the Bryant Park setting. The lighting demonstration will be operational throughout the New York holiday season, until the end of January 2010," said Schwendinger.
Exceptionally versatile and unique, the luminaire is robust enough to be used in rugged environments such as bridge lighting, post-top sidewalk lighting and other architectural exterior applications. The Jewel-Light product line is available in cool white diamond, vivid ruby red, royal amethyst purple, deep sapphire blue and lush emerald green. The Jewel-Light contains 24 LEDs that use only 28 watts of energy and has a rated life of 50,000 hours. The Jewel-Light is available from Lighting Science Group.
"We are proud to be able to offer this lighting solution to the infrastructure and architecture community," said Zach Gibler, CEO, Lighting Science Group Corporation. "It combines the aesthetic with the functional and delivers a replacement for antiquated and utilitarian fixtures and opens up a world of new design opportunities. The Jewel-Light luminaire is a sustainable solution that provides exceptional energy savings and reduces greenhouse gas emissions."
