A new series of conductively cooled semiconductor laser bars from Coherent, Inc. offers both high power and extended lifetime, even under adverse operating conditions.
The PulseLife TM Conductively Cooled Package (CCP) series of single laser bars utilizes telecom-grade solder technology to bond the laser die directly to its heatsink. This approach, complemented by the proven performance of our AAA(tm) (Aluminum-free Active Area) and 940 & 980 nm material systems, delivers over 10,000 hours of lifetime (MTTF) at output powers of 50 Watts (at 810, 940, and 980 nm). Most importantly, the optimum balance between thermal conductivity and expansion coefficient matched packaging maintains this reliability under torturous "on-off" cycle conditions.
This high durability, together with the convenience of conductive cooling, make PulseLife CCP lasers ideal for demanding tasks in materials processing and graphics printing. In addition, they offer the performance characteristics necessary for military applications in which the laser is subjected to elevated operating temperatures (as high as 75°C), frequent power cycling and extremes of shock and vibration. PulseLife CCP lasers have also been designed with ease of integration in mind; for example, they feature an optical fill factor of 30%, which facilitates fiber coupling and lensing of the output.
