LightPointe, the leading manufacturer of Gigabit capacity outdoor point-to-point data bridges, is now shipping the new Aire X-Stream FSO solution optimized for telecom networks, which due to the exponential growth of mobile data, video, and voice applications require extremely fast and reliable wireless backhaul infrastructure.
The Aire X-Stream FSO is part of LightPointe's family of Ultra Low Latency (ULL) wireless bridges including 60 GHz and 70/80 GHz radios, and Free Space Optics laser links used to connect buildings or towers in Carrier and Enterprise networks where speed and synchronization are paramount to reliable communications. This is especially critical during call "hand off" when mobile users travel between cell sites, and to ensure overall voice and data transmission quality.
"Ultra Low Latency performance and synchronization are extremely important in today's wireless backhaul networks," said Dr. Heinz Willebrand, CEO of LightPointe Communications. "Our new Aire X-Stream FSO system not only transmits data extremely fast, it supports telecom networks utilizing the IEEE 1588 standard, also known as Precision Time Protocol or PTP. The Aire X-Stream FSO solution -- which reliably transmits data over eight laser beams per link -- supports all mobile wireless network synchronization schemes essential for a high degree of quality of service. And best of all, the solution is license free worldwide, immune to RF congestion issues, provides the highest wireless data transmission security possible, and is capable of 2.5 Gbps of aggregated capacity per link."
LightPointe's Aire X-Steam solutions are utilized in Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) networks -- such as WCDMA FDD in GSM deployments -- and in Time Division Duplex (TDD) networks such as CDMA, CDMA2000, and Long-Term Evolution (LTE) deployments which require frequency accuracy, phase alignment, and time alignment between all basestations in the cell network. IEEE 1588v2 synchronization support is essential for microwave, millimeter wave (MMW), and Free Space Optics (FSO) backhaul solutions in today's 4G and future 5G metropolitan area networks. The Aire X-Stream Series is also deployed in High Frequency Trading (HFT), Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) applications, and in Distributed Antenna System (DAS) networks.
LightPointe also announced that the company is a featured manufacturer in the CMTC Made in California program this week.
