Ophir Photonics, global leader in precision laser measurement equipment and a Newport Corporation brand, is pleased to announce that Ophir-Spiricon LLC was recently announced a winner of the 2014 Manufacturing Leadership Awards. Ophir-Spiricon was honored by Frost & Sullivan's Manufacturing Leadership Council as one of 100 world-class manufacturing companies to receive this year's award.
Ophir-Spiricon won in the category of Workplace Leadership along with IBM Corp., Merck & Co. Inc, Peterbilt Motors Co., and Ultra Machining Company.
The companies celebrated on June 5th at the 10th anniversary gala in Palm Beach, FL.
Ophir-Spiricon's Manufacturing Leadership Award is in recognition of their achievements in creating a culture of excellence through continuous improvement, innovation, and employee empowerment. The program is based on the Shingo model of enterprise excellence. Program components include an idea creation system based on a combination of the Eureka Ranch Innovation Model and the company's own productivity improvement process. In addition, employees are offered over 100 different online development courses through Bridgerland Applied Technology College. Employees are actively involved in community development projects involving the Child and Family Support Center, the Utah Food Bank, and fund raising races. To foster teamwork and innovation, in 2013 the employees worked together to complete a Rube Goldberg machine and were awarded a paid day off; the company saw some very creative thinking during the building of the machine.
