Ophir-Spiricon won in the category of Workplace Leadership along with IBM Corp., Merck & Co. Inc, Peterbilt Motors Co., and Ultra Machining Company.

The companies celebrated on June 5th at the 10th anniversary gala in Palm Beach, FL.

Ophir-Spiricon's Manufacturing Leadership Award is in recognition of their achievements in creating a culture of excellence through continuous improvement, innovation, and employee empowerment. The program is based on the Shingo model of enterprise excellence. Program components include an idea creation system based on a combination of the Eureka Ranch Innovation Model and the company's own productivity improvement process. In addition, employees are offered over 100 different online development courses through Bridgerland Applied Technology College. Employees are actively involved in community development projects involving the Child and Family Support Center, the Utah Food Bank, and fund raising races. To foster teamwork and innovation, in 2013 the employees worked together to complete a Rube Goldberg machine and were awarded a paid day off; the company saw some very creative thinking during the building of the machine.

"During the long and deep recession we have experienced since 2008, Ophir-Spiricon has been able to increase market share through excellent customer service, quality products, and fast turnaround times," said Gary Wagner, General Manager. "By having a great business plan, keeping a steady course, and empowering our employees, we have avoided the challenges of survival that many companies experienced during this time. Ophir-Spiricon has been able to reduce costs and improve employee productivity. The net result is that we have been more efficient than any time in our 35 year history."
