Hubbell Lighting Develops Industry’s Highest Output LED Downlight Solution

Hubbell Lighting, a world leader in lighting innovation, will demonstrate at LIGHTFAIR INTERNATIONAL 2013 two new technologies that provide solutions for vexing problems faced in architectural downlighting.

Recognizing that high ceilings in large commercial and architectural spaces are very difficult to light, Hubbell Lighting’s Prescolite brand has developed the industry’s highest output LED downlight solution—the 12,000 lumen MegaLum—by integrating heat pipe technology into the fixture. And because you never know what new light source technology might be around the corner, Hubbell Lighting’s Kurt Versen brand has dramatically extended the life of its fixtures by engineering a modular fixture platform which incorporates plug and play connectors that accept a variety of illumination technologies—aptly named MultiSource™.

“At Hubbell Lighting we are committed to innovative design and forward thinking,” said Scott Muse, President of Hubbell Lighting. “For over a century, that commitment has made Hubbell Lighting an industry leader and the Prescolite MegaLum and Kurt Versen MultiSource™ are shining examples of those principles at work.”

To overcome the thermal management challenge of an extraordinarily high light output LED fixture, Prescolite’s MegaLum uses innovative heat pipe technology—traditionally used in computers, HVAC systems and solar products—to transfer heat away from the LED’s at speeds more than ten times faster than conduction systems. The recessed downlight is available in multiple configurations for design flexibility and compatible with Hubbell Lighting’s Wi-HUBB system for expanded controllability. Simplifying maintenance, the downlight’s driver and light engine are completely accessible from above or below the ceiling plane for convenient serviceability. The MegaLum is the perfect lighting upgrade for T4 quartz (up to 500 watts), metal halide (up to 250 watts) and induction (up to 165 watts) sources for ceiling heights of 40 to 60 feet in stores, restaurants, hotels, museums, and office buildings.

Kurt Versen’s MultiSource™ technology brings a whole new meaning to fixture sustainability, by providing the capability to use current light sources (remote phosphor LED, PAR LED, and MR-16 LED and metal halide) as well as the ability to use future sources. Currently available with over 10 product lines, MultiSource™ capability allows for the quick changeover of light sources by using plug and play connectors. Unique optical assemblies are created for each light source, assuring beam performance and brightness control. Now, designers can choose the appropriate light source for each downlight application all within the same size aperture family. No more one source fits all solutions. Kurt Versen’s MultiSource™ offering elevates recessed lighting systems to a true level of sustainability.
