The ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was presented to the President and CEO of GE Lighting, Maryrose Sylvester, at an awards ceremony held recently in Washington D.C. Credited with this award for seven consecutive years, this recognition for GE’s appliances and lighting businesses complements its industrial growth.
According to Sylvester, GE Lighting has over 500 ENERGY STAR-qualified products, which benefit its customers with their high energy efficiency. This sustained excellence distinction demonstrates GE’s commitment towards its customers in bringing innovations to the market.
GE has been supporting the ENERGY STAR program by recycling at company locations and through various initiatives such as offering training course for its sales employees, retailers and distributors, thereby promoting the ENERGY STAR-qualified products. These initiatives contribute to its ENERGY STAR recognition.
In 2011, GE Lighting delivered 501 ENERGY STAR-qualified LED and CFL products, marking a significant milestone. Among the overall GE Lighting products marketed in last year in the U.S., 75% of CFL and LED products were ENERGY STAR-qualified.
Being the U.S’ first lighting manufacturer to achieve ENERGY STAR qualification for its omnidirectional LED bulb, GE Lighting has other outstanding energy-savings initiatives to its credit. Last year, the GE facilities demonstrated a reduction in greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions of over 478,000 MT. The National Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., was illuminated using thousands of GE-branded color-changing, Color Effects programmable, ENERGY STAR-qualified LED lights.
