ClariPhy Communications, a provider of ultra-high speed mixed signal processing (MXSP), and digital signal processing (DSP) system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for coherent optical networks, has delivered bulk shipments of its LightSpeed CL4010 Coherent SoC.
The LightSpeed CL4010 is a single-chip CMOS solution that focuses on the implementation of 40 Gbps (40G) networks based on coherent technology. It provides considerably decreased power and increased integration capabilities. Oclaro, a provider of laser and optical communications solutions, and an investor in ClariPhy has declared bulk shipments of its 40G MSA coherent module, the MI 5000XM, that incorporates the LightSpeed CL4010 SoC of Clariphy.
There is a growing bandwidth demand due to streaming HD video, IPTV, cloud computing, and advancements in bandwidth intensive smart phone applications. The new coherent optical transmission technology offered by state-of-the-art DSP-based modulation techniques sets a new standard in optical networking, increasing the capacity and scope of fiber networks. The LightSpeed CL4010 of Clariphy is the first application specific standard product (ASSP) for coherent optical transmission, assisting OEMs and module suppliers to cater to the growing demand for installing 40G coherent bandwidth. The CL4010 ASSP also provides a tested MXSP platform, so as to enable the company to deliver custom SoCs to its OEM partners interested in in-house technology, with quick reach and low risk, by utilising the company’s certified ASIC and IP design flow.
The power consumption and density of the company’s LightSpeed CL4010 SoC, assists module suppliers like Oclaro to produce 40G coherent solutions, providing considerable performance and cost benefits with respect to coherent technology.
ClariPhy will illustrate the LightSpeed CL4010 SoC at the ECOC, European Optical Communications Conference to be held in Geneva between September 20 and 22, 2011.
