Manufacturer of analog high-performance integrated circuits, austriamicrosystems has added to its range of LED driver ICs, the novel AS382x LED controller IC.
Designed to offer optimized features and performance, the ICs are available as the 12-channel AS3821 and the 16-channel AS3820.
Featuring ±0.2 % channel-to-channel accuracy, the ICs ensure high picture quality and uniform lighting and can be used for powering MOSFETs externally or because of their distinct base current error compensation, can power economic low beta bipolar transistors.
The LED driver ICs designed by austriamicrosystems features a technology to control the power supply and thereby allows for improved system efficiency. Additionally, the power control technique demands fewer external components allowing for faster response time and providing direct control of a standard DC-DC converter’s output voltage. This direct control feature is useful in the design process for new generation three-dimensional TVs.
The Senior Marketing Manager at the TV Backlighting division of austriamicrosystems, Markus Luidolt stated that the advantage of the ICs is that it allows for extremely quick design-in cycles. The devices feature built-in safety features such as open/short LED detection and thermal shutdown. Furthermore, the devices can be programmed using an SPI port. The AS3821 and AS3820 LED driver ICs are available in 0.8 mm pitch LQFP and 0.5 mm pitch QFN packages.
