Calix declared that the winners of USDA Rural Development Broadband Initiative Program (BIP), Cross Telephone Company (Cross) and Cimarron Telephone Company (CimTel), have chosen the Calix E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) to offer cutting-edge broadband services to homes, institutions, and businesses in 11 counties in Oklahoma.
The two projects will use gigabit passive optical network (GPON) combined with active Ethernet (AE) technologies through the 700GE optical network terminals (ONTs) and E7-2 ESAP to deliver internet protocol television (IPTV), high-speed data services up to 1Gbps and voice to local regions. Both these projects will cost nearly $60 million in BIP loans and grants, of which only a part is diverted for access devices.
The CimTel project will deliver wireless broadband and fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) services to areas with limited access in five northeastern counties in Oklahoma. The $42.4 million award comprises a grant of $21.2 million and a loan of $21.2 million. The project will cover 933 businesses, 8,966 homes, and 35 key community institutions. The 700GE family of ONTs and E7-2 ESAPs will utilize GPON technology to offer advanced data, voice, and IPTV services and 10 GB Ethernet for stable access transport services.
