Lockheed Martin to Develop Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb Kits for U.S. Air Force

Lockheed Martin announced that the U.S. Air Force has granted a $34.5 million contract to produce Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb (LGB) GBU-12 kits.

The kits substantially enhance the precision of weapons and decrease the risk to U.S. and ground forces by executing an integrated software and hardware solution.

The Air Force recently completed an evaluation program for the LGB kits that incorporated GBU-12 and GBU-10 weapons that were released from F-16D Viper and F-15 Eagle aircraft. The LGB system does not need logistics support, ground handling equipment or modifications or upgrades to aircraft.

The device functions by transforming traditional gravity weapons into precision-guided munitions. All LGB kits feature a MAU-209C/B computer control group that contains an air foil group or the electronics guidance solution. The kits can be carried on U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force and majority of international aircraft platforms that are authorized to release LGBs.
