Newton Research Labs Introduces Underwater Laser Scanner for Nuclear Utility Operators

Newton Research Labs has introduced a new laser scanner that can be used by nuclear power utility operators to accurately determine the internal regions of an underwater nuclear reactor.

The NM200UW underwater laser scanner delivers accurate in-vessel measurements and functions in-vessel and underwater within boiling water reactors or pressurized water.

The laser scanner generates a detailed point cloud output that can generate a computer-aided design model when utilized with 3D software. The device is capable of offering an accurate dimensioning of welds, cracks and features.

The NM200UW laser scanner weighs 1 k in water and 4 k in air and measures 101×117× 232 mm. The scanner’s lenses are made of strengthened optical glass and the case is manufactured using hard anodized aluminum. It is supplied with a 45 m cable and other lengths are also provided upon request.

The laser scanner is vital for nuclear power utility operators because the only real-world evaluation solution available to them is video cameras, which do not take accurate measurements.
