SkyFiber, provider of optical wireless broadband (OWB) solutions, announced that the City of Dumas, Texas has selected its optical systems to extend the broadband connectivity in places such as the police station, fire station, and the fire hall.
The fiber-optic network will support 100 Mbps connections and expand the bandwidth by nearly 100 times.
SkyFiber stated that the OWB technology utilizes infrared light to offer more than 1 Gbps connectivity at cost-efficient pricing. The company added that the city officials pondered over the technology’s high-capacity, data security, ease of deployment, and low cost while making the telecommunications technology decision. SkyFiber provides OWB technology through an on-demand licensing model.
Dumas’ IT Director, Rhonda McSpadden commented that the city needed to find a way to enhance the available bandwidth to municipal units without compromising on the data security. Major institutions needed to share large quantities of data securely and quickly. McSpadden mentioned that SKYFIBER’s OWB technology allowed them to enhance the bandwidth between key buildings in the city.
