Power Integrations Announces New Reference Design for 5 W LED Lamps

Supplier of high-voltage ICs, Power Integrations has rolled out a new reference design for a 5 W offline LED driver. Based on the company’s LNK457DG LinkSwitch-PL LED driver IC, the RDK-251 reference design offers a 350 mA single constant-current output at a 15 V LED string voltage. The LED driver features a single-stage power factor correction (PFC) and flicker-free TRIAC dimming.

The output current of the RDK-251 can be minimized to 3 mA by utilizing an AC mains TRIAC dimmer without inducing any flickering or instability in the LED array. The reference design’s supply withstands the 0-300 VAC input range and functions at an AC input range of 85-265 VAC at 47-63 Hz.

The RDK-251 includes minimal count of discrete and passive components, making it compatible with small form factors. The design board is aligned within an A19 LED replacement lamp. In addition, the reference design includes performance data, transformer documentation, bill of materials, and complete power supply specifications. The LinkSwitch-PL solutions are available in eDIP, eSOP and SO-8 packages.
