Compania Anonima Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela (CANTV), a telecommunication provider in Venezuela, has chosen Alcatel-Lucent as a key supplier for its fiber-optic network extension project.
The fiber-optic network will substantially increase the broadband capacity of Venezuela and will provide access to high-speed data, video, voice and internet services across the country.
Alcatel-Lucent will install 2,705 km of fiber in Venezuela’s Central Western area, which represents the largest part of the 5,800 km fiber-optic network extension. The company will offer detailed design engineering, project management, devices, installation, passive elements and fiber-optic sourcing, and test and training. The initial stage of the expansion project has started and will be executed in phases over the next two years.
The fiber-optic project will extend Venezuela’s broadband network to 20,000 km. Approximately 12 million residents in Venezuela will have access to high-speed internet, voice, video on demand and multiple HD TV channels.
Alcatel-Lucent’s head of activities in the Latin America and Caribbean region, Osvaldo Di Campli stated that the fiber-optic network expansion would enable CANTV to deliver high-quality broadband services to Venezuelans.
