Alaska Communications to Design and Engineer Broadband Wireless Network in Alaska

Alaska Communications announced that it has signed a professional services agreement with Rivada Sea Lion to design and engineer the Southwest Alaska Broadband Rural Expansion (SABRE) network in Alaska.

Rivada Sea Lion was established through collaboration between Rivada Networks and Sea Lion International. The former designs and operates communication networks, while the latter is a subsidiary of Sea Lion Corporation. Rivada Sea Lion was awarded a $25.3 million grant, which was earmarked for investments in broadband under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act 2009.

SABRE will offer high-speed broadband service to 53 communities in the southwest region of Alaska. The broadband service will serve a 90,000 sqm region with approximately 30,000 people.

Alaska Communications’ Senior VP of Sales, Michael Wynschenk stated that the company’s potential to bring management solutions for its customers with a focus on the requirements of the customer has been crucial for entering into the agreement.
