Photonic Sensors Roadmapping Workshop Report Available from Research and Market

Research and Markets has announced the addition of Photonic Sensors Roadmapping Workshop Report to their offering.

Examines application specific sensor needs for both the government and the private sector with an emphasis on the oil and gas market, sensing function integration, cost reduction opportunities, and barriers and competing technologies

The 2007 OIDA Photonic Sensors Workshop, held on June 7 in Ottawa, Canada, in conjunction with Photonics North, was planned to address:

  • Application specific sensor needs for both the government and the private sector with an emphasis on the oil and gas market
  • Sensing function integration
  • Cost reduction opportunities
  • Barriers and competing technologies

An additional objective of the workshop was to continue the work by the Photonic (Fiber Optic) Sensor Consortium relating to preliminary fiber optic sensor specifications, metrology, standards, and the potential to work cooperatively with other organizations working on sensor standards.

The workshop included presentations by industry experts representing sensing system designers, manufacturers, and end users of sensor technology. A poster session, in con-junction with formal presentations, allowed a broader representation of the technology and products to be presented. This report contains a synopsis of those presentations.

Applications for point and distributed sensors have been identified. Sensor integration and the potential for multi-functional systems were also discussed, as were wired (fibered) and wireless architectures.
