Janmar Lighting and GE Lighting have deployed an energy-efficient lighting system all over the Tacoma Art Museum located in Washington State. The new lighting system decreases system energy utilization by 85%, and uses about one-fifth lesser fixtures. It also increases the lighting levels by 35%.
The Janmar Lighting fixtures, utilizing the GE CMH lamps, have a soft, warm white light. The new lighting system decreases UV exposure by nearly 60%, when compared to the incandescent system. The lighting system also runs cooler than the conventional incandescent lighting system, and it lasts nearly six times longer.
The Tacoma Art Museum earlier consumed approximately 373,000 kWh every year. The new lighting system has a Janmar Lighting fixture configuration, and a GE ceramic metal halide lamp that utilizes only 23 V. It will consume about 56,000 kWh every year.
The five exhibition spaces of the Museum used the 150-watt PAR 38 incandescent lightings. Similar incandescent lightings were deployed in administrative meeting rooms, public areas, and the gift shop. The new GE lighting system substantially decreases maintenance, and eradicates ceiling clutter by reducing the fixture count.
