Bexel has offered Litepanels’ proprietary LED lighting systems for the FOX Sports and CBS Sports NFL regular season, as well as for post-season telecasts in the 2010 NFL season. The agreement for lighting systems will conclude with the Super Bowl XLV in Texas on February 6, 2011. Bexel is a unit of the Services Division of Vitec Group, and provides broadcast services and solutions, while Litepanels is a lighting company.
The Litepanels LED flat-panel lighting systems are utilized for illuminating the roving sideline reporters and broadcast commentary booths for each of the NFL games. FOX and CBS will broadcast the 14 weekly NFL games during the regular season coverage. FOX and CBS intended shifting to LED Litepanels system for providing an environment- friendly lighting system, and for other performance benefits over conventional incandescent booth lights.
The lighting systems from Litepanels are mercury free and manufactured using recyclable materials. The lighting devices consume only one-third of the power used by other HMIs and weigh only one-tenth of the HMIs.
Litepanels’ Director and Co-Founder of the Broadcast Division, Pat Grosswendt stated that CBS and FOX shifted to LED lights due to the nil heat emission. He added that the broadcast talent is excited about the shift to LED lighting.
