Derbyshire County Council will employ new self-service scanners in 12 libraries in the county. The services will free up the staff time in the libraries.
The pilot program of self-service scanners was conducted in Bolsover. The scanners comprise barcode readers that enable users to renew, borrow, and return their books. A printed receipt shows the date to return the books taken by the users.
The scheme will help in saving money by streamlining the borrowing process. The 12 libraries that will get the self-scanning service are Chesterfield, Alfreton, South Normanton, Buxton, Long Eaton, Dronfield, Glossop, Swadlincote, Heanor, Ilkeston, Ripley, and Bolsover.
Derbyshire County Council’s Leader, Andrew Lewer stated that the pilot program of self-scanners was successful, and the council received many positive feedbacks on the scheme. The launch of the new terminals will aid in the reduction of waiting times. Lewer added that the terminals will also help in freeing up staffs for some other work.
