Epistar Signs Agreement with Toyoda for Closer Business Co-operation

Developer of LED chips, Epistar announced that it has signed an agreement with Toyoda Gosei to have closer co-operation in business. Toyoda, a Japan-based company, is a key patent holder in the LED market. Epistar, before signing the cross-licensing agreement, was providing ODM services to Toyoda.

The VP of Epistar, Rider Chang stated that after signing the agreement, the cooperation between both the companies has increased. The agreement with Toyoda is likely to decrease the concerns of Epistar over patent infringements.

Chang commented that the local LED market has been hindered by law suits. The time consumed by litigation should have been utilized in the production and research of LEDs. Epistar will develop better products to enhance the luminosity of LEDs, by utilizing the patents of Toyoda. Improving the LED luminosity will help in cutting the operational costs and increasing the earnings of the company, Chang added.
