Diodes Announces LED Driver for Low Voltage Lighting Solutions

Diodes has launched a new LED driver, the AL8805 for low voltage lighting solutions with an operating voltage range of 6 – 30 V. The AL8805 constant current switching converter operates at 1A buck mode, and supports a maximum of 10 3W LEDs that are connected in series.

The LED driver delivers 5% constant current output accuracy, which helps to meet the requirements of low cost lighting solutions. The AL8805 offers better inter-lamp matching and uniform LED brightness, without ballast resistors.

The nominal output current of the LED driver is determined using the external resistor setting. Hence, the AL8805 LED dimming is obtained by a PWM signal or a DC voltage, on its control input. With a DC voltage range of 0.5 - 2.5 V, nominal output current of 25% - 100% is yielded. A PWM signal between normal TTL or CMOS levels delivers dynamic dimming range of 1000:1.

The low on-resistance and improved switching speed of the AL8805 offer a switching frequency capability of 1 MHz. This minimizes the sizes of the LED driver’s external components used in challenging thermal environments. The LED driver is available in the SOT23-5 package.
