GigOptix Samples New Chipset for 14 Gb-s Serial Optical Interconnect

GigOptix has begun sampling its new chipset for 2 - 14 Gb/s short reach serial optical interconnects. The chipset offers an end-to-end serial link solution for a maximum of 14 Gb/s applications.

The chipset includes a HXR4101A multirate receiver, and a HXT4101A VCSEL driver. The chipset consumes power below 250 mW for 300 m links, and 150 mW for 100 m links. It also reduces the units needed to execute a transceiver, hence decreasing costs. The HXR4101A multirate receiver is a Transimpedance Amplifier, having pre-emphasis output that supports multiple data rates from 2 to 14 Gb/s. The output also avoids the requirement for a post amplifier, as in existing industry solutions. These features make the receiver suitable for systems that need backward compatibility.

The HXT4101A VCSEL driver consumes power below 65 mW, and delivers an average frequency of 7 mA. The compact and user-friendly designs of the driver allow applications to be extended from datacom into consumer and avionic applications.

The VP of GigOptix-Helix, Jörg Wieland commented that the company is pleased to launch the new chipset system, which addresses the existing and future datacom requirements. He added that the company manufactured the solution to meet the customer demand for low-power, high-performance, and improved cost-efficienct solutions.
