New LED Lights Installed at Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum has completed the replacement of incandescent light fixtures with energy-saving LED lighting in the two exhibit journeys and the waiting area. The museum’s gift shop will also be installed with new LED lights. In addition, the LED fixtures will also be installed at the museum’s central Plaza mural, the Illinois Gallery and the waiting area.

A federal stimulus grant of $25,676 will fund the project. The grant has been obtained through the Illinois Capital Development Board. Similar amount of funds will be provided by the library foundation.

The museum’s spokesman, David Blanchette stated that the library and museum’s average utility bill amounts to $100,000 per month. The new LED fixtures will allow them to cut their yearly energy costs by over $50,000. Blanchette added that the LED lighting consumes minimal energy, offers cooler output and does not produce any UV light.
