DuPont has set up a new photovoltaic (PV) applications laboratory in Wilmington, North America to support materials development for the emerging PV solar energy sector. More than 55 representatives from the PV industry participated in the opening ceremony.
DuPont’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Ellen Kullman, stated that the company has collaborated with government agencies, clients and stakeholders to meet the growing demand for renewable energy. She added that the new research facility will give them access to the vast scientific workforce and will enable them to design the materials and technology needed to convert solar energy into electricity.
The laboratory will also speed up the production of new generation of PV materials by combining the company’s science and engineering expertise with sophisticated testing capabilities. The new facility will serve as a platform to enable research collaborations, innovation and technology exchanges among universities, research institutes, clients and industrial partners. The laboratory will also enable the company to make rapid advancements in the solar module design and speed up the process of delivering superior performance solutions for the PV sector.
Miller stated that the research facility will also expand the company’s portfolio of PV research and technical facilities in Europe and Asia and will enable them to develop efficient and durable solar energy products for consumers.
