Fujifilm Transfers R+D Base to Omiya to Reinforce Digital Camera Business

FUJIFILM reported that the R&D, quality assurance, and procurement operations of its digital camera division will be shifted to Saitama-shi, Saitama Prefecture, also known as Omiya, in July. These operations are currently located in Taiwa. The company has decided for the transfer to reinforce its digital camera business organization.

Fujinon, an Omiya-based lens developer and manufacturer, will be incorporated with Fujifilm to improve the optical device business. The relocation will develop an organizational structure to Fujinon, maximizing its lens technology. It will also improve the coordination among the product planning, sales and marketing divisions of Fujinon.

However, Fujifilm’s subsidiary FUJIFILM Digital Techno will continue its functions in assessment, production technology and other operations pertaining to digital cameras in Taiwa. The manufacturing of digital camera sensors will continue in Taiwa until June 2011, after which the production will be licensed to a partner company. Also, Fujifilm will continue to develop digital camera sensors and its proprietary imaging technology including the Super CCD EXR.
