Future Lighting Solutions today announced an upgrade to its Usable Light Tool (ULT) for LED application developers. ULT 2.0 significantly enhances the ability for users to make informed decisions on selecting the appropriate LED, LED count, LED drive current, and heat sink in order to determine the usable light that will be generated under real world conditions for solid state lighting applications.
In addition, for the first time, users are able to easily visualize the LED system safe operating area and how parameters such as flux, efficacy, forward voltage, power consumption and junction temperature are impacted by factors such as variations in ambient temperature, heat sink thermal resistance and LED forward voltage bin range.
The primary ULT 2.0 enhancements include:
- Addition of new variables to be considered in output calculations including:
- Circuit board selection
- Heat sink selection
- Ability to generate up to 40 parametric output charts as a function of:
- LED drive current
- Ambient temperature
- Heat sink thermal resistance
- LED forward voltage bin range
- LED flux bin range
- Dynamic link to relevant LED datasheets for fast reference
- Faster toggling between the input and results sections
- Link to ULT 2.0 tutorial and demonstration video
- Full compatibility with Future’s SSL Designer, a complementary tool for luminaire system level design
