Poland has been pursuing economic liberalization since the early 1990s and is regarded as one of the biggest success stories amongst former state-controlled economies. GDP in 2008 grew at 4.8%, fuelled by rising private consumption, corporate investment and EU funds inflow. The government has announced plans to introduce additional business-friendly reforms, reduce public sector spending growth, lower taxes and accelerate privatization efforts.
