Edmund Optics®, a global manufacturer and supplier of optical components, is proud to announce that its UAV Series prime lenses have won a Silver Award at the 2024 Vision Systems Design (VSD) Innovators Awards. Compact, lightweight, and high-resolution, the lenses are optimized for use in autonomous vehicles and drones.
The UAV Series lenses have an athermal design for wide temperature ranges and are very robust against shock and vibration, making them ideal for drone mapping and surveillance, aerial imaging, and photogrammetry applications.
The higher the resolution, the larger, heavier, and more complex the lenses typically are. The UAV Series lenses, on the other hand, have a very compact size while still achieving 24.4 megapixel resolution with sensors with 2.74 µm pixel size. They are designed for new, high-resolution image sensors such as the 4th generation Sony Pregius 1.2” IMX530 and IMX540.
Lockable focus and aperture rings prevent accidental adjustment during use. The lenses are optimized for long working distances, as mobile robots are primarily concerned with long distances rather than the short distances found in industrial environments. In robotic environments, lighting conditions are usually much less controllable than in manufacturing, for example, so special attention was paid to reducing stray light in the lens.
Other lenses that achieve the 24.4 megapixel resolution of the Edmund Optics UAV series are usually much larger and heavier and poorly suited to mobile use. The UAV series uses sleek mechanics and tight tolerances achieved through the most advanced assembly techniques, resulting in the small size and high resolution.
The UAV series fixed focal length lenses are available in 16 mm, 25 mm and 35 mm focal lengths and are in stock for fast shipping.
