Photonex Roadshow to Visit Heriot-Watt University on 4th June 2014

The Photonex Roadshow will be visiting the Edinburgh Conference Centre at Heriot-Watt University on the 4th June. This photonics event is composed of a conference appealing to scientists in academia and industry who wish to learn about cutting edge developments in the use of light technologies in the life sciences, a one-day programme of industry tutorials - how to apply and use technology available, and a comprehensive supplier’s exhibition.

Scottish groups are sponsoring the event; organisations such as SUPA and Scottish Optoelectronics Association will be exhibiting and are assisting in the organisation and spreading of the knowledge of the event through their networks. Prof Rory Duncan, Head of Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering, Heriot-Watt University, is chairing the Conference “Advances in Photonic Tools and Techniques for the Life Sciences”.

This meeting introduces new biophotonic and imaging techniques being applied in the life sciences, with photonics and light technologies now being adopted across disciplines. This conference will be of particular interest to people wanting to learn more about technologies outside their immediate area of expertise or to hear leading academics in their own field. Speakers include: Dr David Li (University of Strathclyde), Dr Colin Rickman (Heriot-Watt University), Prof Mark Bradley (University of Edinburgh) and Dr Robert Henderson (University of Edinburgh).

Prof Duncan’s interest in the event is as Head of the Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering, IB3 as it is known, which has the aim of applying advances in the physical and engineering sciences to address fundamental life science questions and develop novel imaging and data analysis approaches.

Learn more about IB3 at the Roadshow exhibition and about the ‘Edinburgh Super-resolution Imaging Consortium’ which serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, high quality post-graduate training, interdisciplinary research and funding proposals and provides every live cell, super-resolution imaging and spectroscopic technique available, all under the one roof.

Exhibiting companies are further supporting the Roadshows by giving in-depth tutorials on key subjects. Do you need to learn how to apply light technologies? Attendees will learn much more in these half hour sessions than can be learnt following hours of confusing internet research.

Tutorials will feature on theory, advances, techniques, technology comparisons and features to look out for when choosing your equipment for your next project.

Are you considering an application that light technology might solve? Interested parties are urged to visit the Photonex Roadshow website, www.photonex.org/scotland where they will be able to learn more about subjects to be covered at the event.

The event is free to attend however advanced registration is requested for the conference and exhibition. Please register to visit or to receive more details via the website.
