As covered on the BBC earlier today, pureLiFi, the light communications technology company, will demonstrate the first commercially available Li-Fi system - Li-1st - at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona between 24th and 27th February.
pureLiFi is at the forefront of research and commercialisation into Li-Fi, an industry expected to grow from $100 million to $6 billion by 2018. Visible Light Communication (VLC) is the use of light to transmit data wirelessly. Li-Fi - a term coined by pureLiFi’s Chief Science Officer and co-founder, Professor Haas – is a technology based on VLC that provides full networking capabilities similar to Wi-Fi, but with significantly greater spatial reuse of bandwidth.
Professor Harald Haas said:
“After achieving so many technological breakthroughs and development milestones in 2013, 2014 will see pureLiFi solidifying its market leadership position by delivering a roadmap of new, ground-breaking products.”
“Adding to our team is one of the main priorities this year, along with the establishment of key relationships in the many market segments applicable to Li-Fi. 2014 is going to be another exciting year for the Li-Fi industry and we are well positioned to achieve significant growth as the market expands worldwide.”
