SpectraScience, a San Diego-based company that produces medical devices, has started shipping its WavSTAT4 Optical Biopsy System to a major manufacturer of minimally invasive surgical devices, PENTAX Europe under the five-year distribution agreement reported earlier this month.
The agreement includes information about the shipment of disposable optical biopsy forceps and WavSTAT4 mobile console to South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Europe.
Michael Oliver, Chief Executive Officer of SpectraScience, said that the initial delivery order of systems for customers in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Netherlands demonstrates the PENTAX' plan to readily incorporate WavSTAT4 Optical Biopsy System to its business in the colorectal screening field. He further added that the company’s manufacturing and engineering teams are on the verge of expanding the production plans and training programs to satisfy the requirements of PENTAX as per the agreement.
PENTAX provides endoscopes, which are flexible and used with WavSTAT4 Optical Biopsy System for screening colorectal cancer. The WavSTAT4 Optical Biopsy System can be utilized as an adjunct for the current endoscopic methods, and diagnoses cancerous tissues in vivo while carrying out colorectal screening. The results of the diagnosis made by WavSTAT4 Optical Biopsy System are instantly displayed on the system console in which a red icon indicates cancerous tissue and a green icon denotes normal tissue.
SpectraScience develops and supplies light-based analysis systems that determine whether the tissue is cancerous, pre-cancerous or normal without incising the tissue from the body. The WavSTAT Optical Biopsy System makes use of light to diagnose the tissue and provides immediate analysis to the physician.
