Sumitomo Electric Lightwave Launches FC-6RS and FC-6RM-C Fiber Cleavers

Sumitomo Electric Lightwave has introduced the FC-6RM-C fiber cleaver and the FC-6RS automatic blade rotation cleaver. The FC-6RM-C cleaver is the first automatic blade clever in the industry that is used for 1 to 12 fibers with high precision cleaves.

The FC-6RS cleaver is used for a single fiber, while the FC-6RM-C cleaver is used in precision applications that include field termination and fusion splicing. These two units eliminate errors in the working process and also consume less operation time, thus increasing the product life to a maximum level and increasing precision and comfortable usage.

Unlike cleaver blades that had to be manually rotated and adjusted, these two units enable rotating the cleaver blades automatically to obtain precise cleaves in a fast and easy manner. A two-step process is used to get precise cleaves without double scoring of fibers. The requirement of service and maintenance for both the cleavers are reduced by increasing the maximum life of the blades to 144,000 cleaves. The cleavers have an automatic property that allows cleaving multiple and single fibers without any disruption.

The cleavers are provided with rotation options for the blades. These options include specifications for accurate cleave quality that ensures terminations with low reflectance and this in turn improves the performance of fiber optic systems and components. The FC-6RM-C cleaver is available with a scrap collector, and the FC-6RS cleaver may or may not have a scrap collector.

The cleavers are used for splicing multimode and single-mode optical fibers in a portable and light unit. Limited workspace is optimized by the design and footprint of the cleavers that have a <0.5 degrees cleave angle.
