ASE optics, a service provider offering optical engineering services, has enhanced the performance of the lens system for a technology client by 400%.
The discovery services of ASE optics spent 20 h of research and studied the choices available for normal high-speed imaging lenses in cases where the lens performance was not satisfactory. They were able to design a new lens with 4x better performance and supplied the new completed lenses six weeks after the discovery period.
Even though the details of the customer and the projects are maintained highly confidential, the company faces common challenges on performance issues. The company’s discovery service can define a problem under a larger program context, quickly identify feasibility and difficulty of the new designs and can solve difficult issues with an appropriate solution. With this discovery service, the company can work faster on the backlogged projects.
Christopher Cotton, ASE Optic’s General Manager, said that its engineers do not preconceptualise anything before beginning a discovery service. Cotton stated their team is often asked to examine and discover alternative solutions for performance issues. The discovery service may help in a new performance enhancement method from what is already commercially available, or in discovering a new assembly design or lens.
In a recent project, the company engineers were able to provide guidance to the customers, who were in need of a medical device optical system, with a solution that can be easily implemented and minimizes manufacturing time and cost.
The other projects of the company’s discovery service will include investigating homogenization techniques in LED spot-light instrument, analyzing ultra-fast laser system’s tolerance rate, developing sampling techniques and less-stress assembly techniques for a scanning optical metrology system and polarization imaging system respectively, investigating horizon imaging lens system and designing IR imaging lens.
