IDENT Technology and AU Optronics (AUO) have agreed to develop a novel liquid crystal display modules (LCM) with integrated free-space gesture control capabilities using GestIC three-dimensional (3D) gesture control chip of Ident, 3D LCM and 2D multi touch of AUO.
This partnership will provide advanced displays with 3D sensing functionalities along with 2D touch control to the consumer electronic industry.
The GestIC’s patented technology is derived from the principle of near-field electric sensing, and it easily integrates into AUO’s standard touch panels. The 3D sensing functionalities of GestIC chip enables strong, real-time, low-power tracking of finger movements or of waving the hand before a monitor. The finger or hand movement of the user along the area of the monitor is interpreted into a broad range of jitter-free position data and predefined gesture instructions. The device can operate individually by removing blind spots and is suitable for battery operated equipments, as it consumes less power.
The two companies are focussed towards integrating GestIC into the LCM of AUO, and build the user interface to cater to the customers. AUO is responsible for developing, accelerating and distributing its 3D Gesture and 2D multi touch displays.
