Enel Sole, along with Acea Distribuzione, has created an architectural lighting system for Palazzo Spada, which houses the chief legal-administrative consultative body in Italy.
As a mark of the 180th anniversary of the Council of State and 150 years of Italian unification, the innovative lighting system was activated on June 23rd.
The lighting system is designed to showcase the splendor of the Palazzo Spada belonging to the 16th century. The inside courtyard, the main façade and the rear facades are exquisitely lit. The building is adorned with valuable sculptures and decorative art, the light is projected in a manner that highlights the specialty and beauty of the architecture during the really dark hours yet the lighting is unobtrusive.
Equipment that can direct the light beams neatly and precisely without causing a harshly lit environment is used for the main façade area. The objective was to form a light pool to mark the fine lines and excellence of the architecture.
The lighting of the Piazza Capo di Ferro, that faces the main façade is done in such a way that the existing street lighting is adapted and restored using light sources that can form a harmony between colors and physical things in a much better manner than conventional sodium lamps. This ensures a blend between the façade surfaces and the neighboring townscape.
Similarly, the lighting in the underpass with the barrel vault, the colonnaded courtyard and the rear facades has been worked on. A novel remote control system is deployed to enable remote operation of the lighting system the help of a touch-screen.
