A commercially-viable transmission technology developed by a research group named POF-PLUS will be unveiled at the OFC 2011.
The research group is sponsored by the European Union with support from some of Europe’s telecom giants such as Telecom Italia and France Telecom.
The technology capable of transmitting data via Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) at Gigabit speeds will be highlighted at the POF symposium and the OFC 2011, where consortium members Rosetta IP, Luceat and Firecomms will demonstrate the Gigabit Ethernet transmission using media converters.
The CTO of Firecomms, John Lambkin stated that due to the ultra-thin design of the POF, it has been deployed by several operators across Europe.
Member organizations POF Application Center (POFAC) and Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits will present the developments of the Gigabit transmission technology at booth number 2615. A complete overview of the transmission project will be presented by Roberto Gaudino, a professor at Politecnico di Torino. Conclusion detailing the commercial deployment of the technology will be given by the Firecomms’ Vice President of sales and marketing, Hugh Hennessy. The presentation will take place at the Expo Theater 3, at the exhibition floor of the POF Symposium on 10th March 2011. The exposition is being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center in California.
