Wave2Wave Launches WDM Passive Optical System for Rapid Network Expansion

Wave2Wave has launched a advanced wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) passive optical system for rapid optical network expansion.

The WDM passive optical system can support both dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) and coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) separations of about 40 and 20 channels, respectively.

The w-Lucid high-performance WDM elevates the bandwidth transmitted by a fiber link as much as 400 Gb/s, and at the same time eliminates the difficulty and expenditure of using new network infrastructure. The WDM makes use of existing fiber plant, supports diverse network traffic types, allows quick network expansion at minimum cost, and works faultlessly with advanced passive optical networks.

Wave2Wave’s President, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, David Wang stated that the w-Lucid will enable service providers, carriers and enterprises to elevate their bandwidth at nominal cost. The solution also simplifies network infrastructure and eliminates both maintenance and network management efforts, Wang said.

A major company that deals in publicly traded collocation services has chosen Wave2Wave’s passive optical system to interlink its worldwide network of data centers. The system provided maximum savings when compared to conventional process of deploying additional fiber cables.

Wave2Wave displayed the w-Lucid WDM passive optical system and w-Metro series of network solutions at Teladata’s Technology Convergence Conference. The event was held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on 23 February 2011.
