Universal Display Receives DOE Award for White OLED Lighting Development

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has honored Universal Display, developer of OLED technologies, for advancements in Solid-State Lighting R&D in 2010. Universal Display obtained the award at the annual Solid-State Lighting Workshop of DOE, held in San Diego, California.

Universal Display was recognized for its developments in white OLED lighting with high-efficiency PHOLED technology and related materials. In addition, the company has received the DOE award for the fourth consecutive year.

Universal Display collaborated with its project partners, the University of Southern California, the University of Michigan, and Armstrong World Industries and demonstrated two phosphorescent OLED luminaires in the US. The advancement paved the way for the development of practical OLED lighting in a comprehensive luminaire solution, with maintenance provisions, mounting, power supply, and decorative housing.

The prototypical OLED lighting solution delivers a system efficiency of 51 lm/W and can integrate into the Armstrong TechZone Ceiling System. In addition, Universal Display displayed 66 lm/W efficacy at 1,000 cd/m2 luminance in another DOE program.
