The City of Los Angeles has chosen Carmanah Technologies’ EverGEN 1710 solar powered lights to illuminate a bicycle path.
The customizable operating profiles offered by the Carmanah EverGEN 1710 enable the city to provide light on the bike path while the lights are under operation.
The total value of the lighting project is worth about $500,000 (USD). Previously, the bicycle path delivered light with conventional grid-powered AC HID fixtures. Owing to an increasing copper theft in the region, the trail was left without lights. To provide a solution to this copper wire theft, the City in collaboration with Carmanah and David Silverman, a local lighting agent, & Associates planned to use solar powered lights in the path.
The Project Manager at Los Angeles City, Kerney Marine stated that the Carmanah EverGEN lights provided the city the required lighting. Marine added that the design with the luminaire mounted at the top of the pole, solar panels, batteries and electronics enable the system to be theft-resistant. In addition, the solar powered lights delivered light levels that comply with the IES specified lighting specifications, Marine said.
