AlpenIO Showcases Optical Cable Assemblies at DesignCon Event

Developer of optical interconnect technology, AlpenIO has introduced new optical solutions at the DesignCon event. The optical cable assemblies are based on AlpenIO’s patented LightFinity optical technology and are ideal for PCI Express cards. The cable assemblies have low cost design that results in a compact form factor.

AlpenIO rolled out the first PCI Express active optical cables in 2010. They are capable of transferring the auxiliary sideband signals over fiber.

The company’s VP of Sales & Marketing, Charles Weekes commented the company has introduced a new x4 PCI Express active optical cable system that supports 32GT/s signaling. The cable technology supports Gen3 data rates at a maximum distance of 100 m. The cables are plug compatible with the PCIe connector and backward compatible to Gen2 and Gen1 data rates.

AlpenIO’s President, Marc Verdiell stated that the cable assemblies’ design utilizes pre-aligned V-Grooves and passive alignment. He added that the company provides LightFinity optical engines that can be combined in cable assemblies.
