Telefonica Peru Plans to Expand Fiber Optic Network by 2012

Telefonica del Peru intends to expand the fiber optic network by 50% across the nation by 2012. The network expansion will allow the company to offer broadband service to numerous cities in the forests and mountains in Peru.

The announcement was made by the Corporate Communications Manager at Telefonica del Peru, Guillermo Denegri. He added that the company’s network reach will cover Yurimaguas, Moyobamba, Tarapoto, Tocache, Tingo Maria, Pucallpa, Huanuco, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Cusco, Andahuaylas, Abancay and other regions through the fiber optic network expansion. The project includes the deployment of 1,500 mi of fiber optics, which is significant investment devised by Spain’s Telefonica Group for Peru, Denegri said.
