Reliance Globalcom Deploys Ciena 40 G Optical Networking Solution to Expand Submarine Network

Managed network service provider, Reliance Globalcom has selected network specialist, Ciena’s coherent 40 G optical networking system for a cable route linking Egypt, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The upgraded cable route, which spans over 6,400 km, will include 2.4 Tbps network capacity on a submarine route connecting Europe and the Middle East.

The submarine route aids in the transmission of traffic between the Asia and the Atlantic crossing regions of Reliance Globalcom’s submarine network. The company will utilize the Ciena ActivFlex 6500 Packet-Optical solution to upgrade the 40 G technology with 40 G ultra-long haul interfaces. The upgrade is a part of the company’ s plan to maximize capacity of the submarine network without adding complexity and cost to the network or disturbing the current consumer traffic.

The 40/100 G technology from Ciena features colorless and directionless ROADM functionality, electronic dispersion compensation and coherent optics. It facilitates operators to increase the flexibility, capacity and reach of submarine networks by focusing on network investment protection, cost efficiency and ease-of-deployment. In addition, the company has improved the 40/100 G technology to facilitate the upgrade of ultra-long haul submarine networks.
