Samsung LCD, RealD Showcase RDZ Displays at CES 2011

Samsung Electronics LCD Business and RealD announced that they have developed a 3D display technology that provides full resolution HD 3D video. The new RDZ technology is compatible with the 3D eyewear that is utilized in RealD motion picture theatres.

Samsung LCD and RealD demonstrated the RDZ 3D displays at the CES 2011 that was held in Las Vegas.

The RDZ 3D display technology, unlike the traditional 3D display technologies based on patterned retarder, delivers HD 3D images by utilizing an active shutter technology. The RDZ displays are 2D compatible and deliver high-quality images in 2D mode.

Samsung LCD is manufacturing display solutions based on RDZ 3D technology. The technology utilizes characteristics from RealD’s Cinema System technology. The RDZ 3D display technology syncs with the right and left eye images and delivers HD 3D video.

RealD’s President of Consumer Electronics, Bob Mayson stated that the company is pleased to collaborate with Samsung LCD for developing the RDZ technology. He added that the RDZ 3D displays provide HD 3D viewing experience by utilizing a LCD panel that does not compromise the 2D image quality.
