Calix has announced that Baldwin Telecom (BTI) has chosen the Calix E7 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP) to deploy advanced optical fiber broadband services in Wisconsin.
Calix offers broadband communications software and access systems for copper and optical fiber networks, while BTI has won the Broadband Stimulus award.
The BTI Broadband Stimulus project will deploy the gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology to introduce sophisticated fiber services such as high-speed data, video, and voice services. The fiber services will be offered to above 1,500 underserved or unserved households, institutions, and small businesses.
The BTI Broadband Stimulus award includes more than $9 million in total funds as grants and loans from the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and the Broadband Initiative Program (BIP). In addition, the award comprises an extra $121 thousand in the form of private investment.
The Calix E7-2 fiber access platform has a compact form factor and can be used in challenging areas. BTI can retrofit the E7-2 into current cabinets and use numerous E7-2s as a customizable and virtual chassis. In addition, BTI will combine the Calix E7-2 platforms with Calix 725 ONTs that deliver advanced interactive video, voice, and data services.
