Theralase Technologies, developer of laser solutions, has devised an innovative application for photodynamic compounds (PDCs), which can help eliminate disease-causing bacteria known as Listeria Monocytogenes. The company utilized lasers to stimulate the PDCs that were meant to target and eradicate viruses, bacteria, and cancer.
A research carried out at Princess Margaret Hospital revealed that Theralase PDCs have the potential to eliminate bacteria in vitro when activated by light. The PDC technology is likely to be used to eradicate the bacteria present in wounds, and for sterilizing medical devices, hospital treatment rooms, and food-processing devices.
Theralase’s President, Roger Dumoulin-White stated that the company is delighted that the PDCs are proving to be efficient for various applications. He added that the PDCs are only efficient for destroying various cancer cells, but are also efficient for destroying bacteria.
