Pioneer, MicroVision to Develop Display Engines Using PicoP Laser Technology

MicroVision announced that it has inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Pioneer Corporation to develop and market display engine subsystems and display engines for in-vehicle head-up displays (HUDs). The display engines will be manufactured by utilizing MicroVision’s PicoP laser technology.

Both the companies earlier implemented a development contract to manufacture two vital components for the PicoP display engine. The companies developed an individual display engine subsystem that was based on MicroVision’s PicoP laser scanning technology and a laser light source module by utilizing direct green, blue, and red lasers. Both the components will provide OEMs with substantial advantages in performance, power, size, and price for embedded solutions.

The MOU sets up the framework for a future distribution agreement for display engines to be utilized in embedded, after-market, and consumer products. Pioneer also announced that it will introduce an in-vehicle HUD by utilizing PicoP technology in the consumer market in 2012.

MicroVision’s President, Alexander Tokman stated that by integrating both the company’s manufacturing abilities, they can increase the manufacturing abilities of laser display products and decrease the total cost involved.
