Carmanah’s Solar LED Luminaire to Illuminate Eco-Sensitive Trail in Lummi Nation

Carmanah Technologies is supplying 70 EverGEN 1710 solar LED luminaire to light up the Lummi Nation Indian Reservation’s Haxton Way Trail located in Lummi Nation, Washington.

The Lummi Nation has chosen the EverGEN luminaire to enhance pedestrian safety in the three-mile pathway. The luminaire will also help in safeguarding the integrity of wetlands and wetland complexes that make half of the entire upland area of the Lummi Reservation. Seattle-based lighting firm, Illuminating Resource is also working with the Lummi Nation and Carmanah.

The EverGEN solar luminaire can be deployed without digging or trenching power to each device. The new luminaire will offer controlled light intrude or sky glow as per the guidelines of the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) and will help safeguard night-time wildlife and ecology.

The EverGEN luminaire features Advanced Occupancy Sensing technology that will activate the lights when any of the lights detects motion. This operation reduces utility expenditures by saving energy and safeguarding the natural dark sky.

The Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board and the Federal Lands Highway are funding the project. After the deployment of the lighting systems, the Lummi Nation project will be evaluated for the viability of introducing similar projects in other areas of the country.
