SunPower to Build 3.4 MW Ground-Mounted Solar Power Plant in Italy

Renewables Italia Solar, E.ON Climate and SunPower have inked an agreement that will allow SunPower to develop a 3.4 MW solar power facility in Lazio region, Italy. Construction of the solar power facility will begin in 2010 and is likely to be completed by April 2011.

SunPower will mount highly efficient SunPower E19 solar sheets on the SunPower T0 Tracker System at the solar facility. The Tracker system follows the sun at daytime and offers a maximum of 25% more energy, when compared to the traditional solar power systems. The tracker system also substantially decreases the land use requirements. The system’s visual and environmental impacts will be reduced by the Trackers’ maximum height of 2 m and pier foundations.

SunPower, in 2009, deployed a 1.3 MW rooftop solar power solution at E.ON’s power station in the Sardinia region, Italy. The company has over 225 MW of power plants located in Europe. It is currently developing a 72 MW Montalto di Castro solar power park in Italy.

E.ON’s Director of PV, Christophe Jurczak stated that the company’s aim is to offer a climate-friendly, affordable, and secure energy supply by investing in renewable sources and new technologies.
