Supplier of mixed-signal and analog semiconductors, Semtech has released a current sink LED-backlighting platform that features on-chip digital lighting effects for sophisticated handheld displays.
The platform uses the company’s smart Automatic Dropout Prevention (ADP) technology to allow the creation of advanced high-quality current sink drivers. These drivers can serve as replacements for charge pumps and boost converters in high-end handheld devices and deliver efficient display backlighting solutions.
The SC668 and the SC667 current sinks, equipped with the ADP technology, prolong battery life and minimize the total parts count compared to charge pumps or boost converters. The drivers are suitable for MP3 players, digital cameras and cell phones applications.
The current sink drivers provide better illumination quality than traditional current sinks. The on-chip digital lighting effects offer the flexibility to control blink, breathe, and fade effects without replacing the firmware. In addition, the sink drivers have a PWM dimming interface that includes a digital low-pass filter, offering content-adaptive brightness control.
